Here at Renaissance Pubs our raison d’etre is to provide top-notch food and drink in warm, welcoming surroundings. However we know that many underprivileged people around the world lack access to even the most basic elements of life. This is why we are supporting Kivuli Trust in East Africa.
Run entirely by volunteers, the Trust is focused on the education of children with disability and their acceptance into wider African society. Kivuli is giving these ‘forgotten children’ a chance in life by building dedicated classrooms and boarding houses adjacent to existing schools. This enables playground interaction with other school children, which in turn begins to break the cycle of misjudgement. The aim is to eradicate the belief that disability is a family curse and the manifestation of sin.
There are children at Gilgil Primary School (Kenya) who had spent their entire lives within the confines of their huts. Now they have teachers and friends, are learning basic skills (i.e. planting, weaving), and are no longer hidden away by their parents in shame.
Renaissance Pubs’ support will go directly to assist in the day-to-day running of ‘Kivuli House’, a boarding house for 32 children in Gilgil Primary School, Kenya. These children are getting no less than they deserve - a safe refuge where they can make friends, learn and be valued.
